The Father's Day edition: They're always watching you, Sibling rivalry is alive and well, and a Bait and Switch 😂
Behind the scenes at our house during Father’s Day week.
Parenting Matters #68

Dear Awesome Parent,
We hope you had a great Father’s Day. Here’s a glimpse of our real-life Father’s Day week. It’s not Hallmark perfect, but it’s a perfect snapshot of our family, IRL. Our children might be all grown now, but sometime they still act like the kids they used to be. 😂 😂 😂
Enjoy : )
Sibling rivalry is alive and well on Father’s Day.
One of our sons took us to lunch for Father’s Day.
Me to the son who invited us and paid for lunch:
“Thank you for lunch! It was great hanging out with you.”
Our other son (who had tagged along and gotten a free lunch): “What about me?”
Me: 😂😂😂
Life will never be fair.
The son who lives with us bought steaks and we cooked them at home for Father’s Day dinner.
A few days later, one of our daughters took us to Olive Garden for dinner.
We brought home the leftovers. Our son was in the kitchen, hanging around and looking hungry. We offered him the leftovers. He shoveled them down, then said:
“I buy you steak, and all you give me is leftover pasta?!”
Me: 😂😂😂
The bait and switch.
The day before Father’s Day one of our sons told us: “I’m taking you out for tacos at my favorite place.”
Same son, Father’s day morning: “I’m going out with my girlfriend and her family. I already called my sister and told her to take you out for tacos. She said OK, so you’re going with her instead of me.
Me: 😂😂😂
The Real Gift we got on Father’s Day:
One of our sons brought Glenn a Father’s Day gift.
Our son, handing over a luxury gift bag: "I want the bag back. I can use it again next year.”
Me, laughing: “I wonder where you learned that? “
My son, laughing: "You guys."
Me: 😂😂😂
Lesson: They may not seem to listen much, but they’re ALWAYS watching. 👀 👀 👀
That’s it, folks. Real life in the trenches with adult children.
Clearing Skies
We’d had cloudy skies and rain for days. Finally, as the sun was going down, the clouds cleared and the sun took lit up the clouds for the prettiest sunset in weeks.
I love your site. Helping others understand effective parenting is a great service.
